It’s the question we get asked more than any other in our Boston, Lincolnshire showroom: handles or handleless? Both are hugely popular, and both look stunning when done well. Here’s how to decide.
What is a handleless kitchen?
A handleless kitchen has no handles on the doors. Instead, there’s a recessed rail or a shaped edge (often called a J-pull) that you hook your fingers into. The result is a smooth, modern, streamlined look.
Why people love them:
- Clean lines that make a room feel bigger
- Nothing to catch your hip or clothes on
- Quick to wipe down
- Perfect with modern colours like deep green, navy or matt greys
Things to think about: handleless suits modern homes best. You’ll also want a good-quality finish, because the doors are the star of the show.
What is a shaker kitchen?
A shaker kitchen has a framed door: a flat centre panel with a raised edge around it. Shaker has been around for over a century and never really goes out of fashion.
Why people love them:
- Timeless, so it won’t date quickly
- Suits cottages, period homes and new builds alike
- Handles let you add personality with brass, black or chrome
- Looks great painted in bold or soft colours
Things to think about: the frame has a small edge that collects dust, so it needs an occasional wipe.
Which should you choose?
- Modern home, open-plan space, minimal look: go handleless.
- Older property, cosy feel, or you love a classic look: go shaker.
- Can’t decide? Come in and see both, and we’ll talk you through what suits your room.
